CybExer to lead European consortium testing IRIS² satellite security

Estonian cybersecurity firm CybExer has been appointed to lead a ten-company European consortium tasked with developing testing and validation capabilities for the EU’s IRIS² secure satellite connectivity system.

The consortium includes companies from Estonia, Finland, Greece, and Italy, such as CGI Estonia, Hellas Sat, and M3S Italia. The project aims to create an end-to-end capability to test the full communications chain—from satellite links and ground infrastructure to the end user—under realistic adversarial conditions and disruptions. This testing will include scenarios involving drone operations and command and control in contested environments.

IRIS² is entering full-scale deployment with a planned constellation of 348 satellites and a 12-year concession valued at 15.6 billion euros. The system is designed to provide secure connectivity for governments and critical users, particularly in situations where communications are deliberately targeted or disrupted.
