Cycling and driving routes through South Tyrol and the Alps
Travel itineraries are highlighted for exploring the Alpine regions of South Tyrol and the border areas between Italy and Austria.
A two-day cycling route follows the Eisack Valley from the Brenner Pass to Bolzano. Spanning approximately 96 kilometers with over 1,000 meters of descent, the path utilizes an old railway track. Key stops along the route include Vipiteno, Fortezza, the Novacella Abbey, Bressanone, and Chiusa. The path features various terrains, including paved sections, forest trails like the Chestnut Path, and tunnels closed to motorized traffic.
An alternative loop of approximately 200 kilometers is available for motorists and motorcyclists, starting from Brunico in Val Pusteria. The route travels through the Anterselva Valley, crosses into Austria via the Defereggental, passes through Lienz, and returns to Italy via the Pustertaler Höhenstraße. This scenic mountain route includes the Passo Stalle, which requires navigating specific traffic light schedules and narrow mountain turns. Notable landmarks include the Anterselva Biathlon Center and Lake Anterselva.
