Cycling competitions announced for Venezuela and Ecuador

The third edition of the Vuelta a Mérida en Bicicleta in Venezuela is set to be one of the most demanding competitions on the cycling calendar. Organized by the Mérida State Cycling Association, the race features extreme high-altitude climbs, including a mountain prize located at 4,577 meters above sea level near Laguna de Mucubají. Homero Leal, president of the association, noted that the prize system is designed to match international standards, rewarding sprinters and climbers alike.

In Ecuador, the 42nd edition of the Vuelta al Ecuador UCI 2.2 will take place from September 7 to 13, 2026. The race will cover approximately 941 kilometers across six provinces: Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Cotopaxi, Pichincha, Imbabura, and Carchi. Technical director Santiago Rosero stated that the route will utilize main roads to comply with UCI safety requirements. The event will feature international teams from Mexico, the Netherlands, Venezuela, and Colombia.
