Cycling events: Il Lombardia U23 and Nairo Quintana's retirement
Major cycling events are approaching in Italy. The 98th edition of the Il Lombardia U23, a prestigious UCI Europe Tour race, will take place on October 3 in Oggiono. Organized by Velo Club Oggiono, the 177-kilometer course features a new, selective circuit including the climb of Ello and iconic ascents such as Ghisallo, Villa Vergano, and Marconaga di Ello.
Following the youth race, the professional Il Lombardia (Classica delle Foglie Morte) is scheduled for October 10. The 239-kilometer route will run from Bergamo to Como, featuring nine climbs and a new final circuit with double ascents of San Fermo della Battaglia and the Civiglio climb.
In a separate milestone, Colombian champion Nairo Quintana has announced he will retire following the Giro dell'Emilia on October 3 in Ferrara. Quintana, a former Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España winner, chose the event to honor his first major international victory in Italy achieved 14 years ago.
Additionally, the 23rd Rally dei Nuraghi e del Vermentino in Sardinia has opened registrations for its upcoming event on October 31 and November 1, featuring both modern and historic rally categories.
