Cycling tourism gains prominence in Italy's Lazio region
Cycling tourism is seeing significant development in Italy's Lazio region through both historical reenactment events and established cycling routes.
The second edition of 'La Rurale,' a vintage cycling event, took place in San Felice Circeo on October 25. Over 100 enthusiasts participated in the event using period-appropriate attire and vintage bicycles. The event featured two routes, including the 80-kilometer 'Ulisse' course, which traversed the Agro Pontino area, passing through Terracina, the Campo Soriano Natural Monument, the hills of Sonnino, and the Circeo National Park.
Additionally, the Ciclovia Etruria has emerged as a notable destination for gravel cycling. This 450-kilometer loop, featuring approximately 7,000 meters of elevation gain, was recently recognized as a top Italian cycling tourism destination. The route connects historical sites such as Veio, Sutri, and Viterbo, and passes through ancient tuff-carved 'vie cave' and near volcanic lakes including Bracciano, Vico, and Bolsena.
