Cycling tourism trends highlighted at EuroVelo conference in Utrecht

The EuroVelo & Cycling Tourism Conference 2026, held in Utrecht, Netherlands, brought together over 220 delegates and experts from 37 countries. The event, themed ‘At the Beating Heart of Cycling’, focused on the growing economic and social potential of cycling tourism as a driver for sustainable regional development in Europe.

Key messages from the European Cycling Federation (ECF) and the European Commission emphasized the importance of strengthening cross-border cooperation, developing long-distance cycling routes, and linking cycling tourism with local economies. These developments align with the upcoming EU Strategy for Sustainable Tourism.

Representatives from the HerzegovinaBike Association attended the conference to study European management models and sustainable development practices. The association aims to apply these insights to enhance infrastructure and service standards in Bosnia and Herzegovina, leveraging existing assets like the Ćiro Trail and the Balkan route to attract international cyclists.
