Cycling updates: UCI Gravel World Series Brazil and Volta a Portugal status

The 2027 UCI Gravel World Series Brazil will take place in Camboriú on March 7. The event features two distinct courses: a 115 km Gran Fondo with approximately 2,000 meters of elevation gain, and a 60 km Medio Fondo with 900 meters of gain. The competition serves as a qualifier for the UCI Super World Series, with the top three finishers in each category and the top 25% of participants earning qualification spots. Organizers have updated the routes to create a more dynamic and faster race, specifically modifying the 'Torres Gêmeas' climb to be tackled only once.

In European cycling news, the Volta a Portugal is scheduled to run from August 4 to August 15, 2027. Despite previous intentions, the race will not be promoted to a higher UCI tier during the current 2026–2028 registration cycle. The Portuguese Cycling Federation confirmed that a category upgrade would only be considered for the 2029–2031 cycle. Maintaining its current status in the third division means the race will not be able to attract World Tour teams under the current regulatory framework.
