Isaac del Toro competes for rainbow jersey at Cycling World Championships

The 2026 UCI Road Cycling World Championships in Montreal feature high-stakes competition in the men's elite road race. Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro enters as a top contender for the rainbow jersey, currently ranked third in the world. Del Toro, who recently won the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, will be supported by a full Mexican team following Edgar Cadena resolving his visa issues. The race covers approximately 273 kilometers with significant elevation gain.

Major absences, including Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard due to injury, have shifted the competitive landscape, increasing the opportunities for emerging riders like Del Toro. Other key competitors include Remco Evenepoel and Wout van Aert.

Ecuadorian cyclist Jhonatan Narváez is also competing as the sole representative from his nation after other members of the delegation withdrew. Narváez faces the challenge of competing without national teammates against large, established squads.
