Cyclist Jaume Guardeño undergoes successful brain surgery
Spanish cyclist Jaume Guardeño has undergone successful brain surgery following a severe training accident in March. The 23-year-old rider for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA struck a stone and collided with a vehicle during a descent north of Barcelona, resulting in a coma and critical condition.
Following the procedure performed by neurosurgeon Andreu Gabarros Canals, Guardeño has been transferred to the Clínica Guttmann to begin a neurorrehabilitation process. The clinic specializes in treating acquired brain injuries and neurological disabilities.
Guardeño is considered a rising talent in professional cycling, having notably finished 14th in the general classification of the Vuelta a España and recently placing third among young riders at the Tour of Catalonia.
