Cyclist Jolanda Sambi injured in training accident

Junior cyclist Jolanda Sambi was injured in a traffic accident while training with her father in Rocca San Casciano. The incident occurred when a car turned into the roadway without yielding right-of-way.

To avoid the vehicle, Sambi’s father fell from his motorcycle, while Sambi slid under the moving car. She sustained a tendon tear in the clavicular and scapular region, a severe trauma to her right jaw, and various abrasions. She was transported by helicopter to Bufalini Hospital in Cesena for medical evaluation, including CT scans of her skull and spine, which ruled out further major lesions.

Sambi, a former two-time Italian track champion, has been given a 30-day medical prognosis, which will likely end her 2026 competitive season.
