Cyclist killed in Bahia and elderly woman injured in Marechal Rondon traffic collisions

A 44‑year‑old cyclist, Maria Cristina dos Santos Alves, died after being struck by a vehicle on a rural road in Sobradinho, northern Bahia on 14 June. The driver fled the scene and is being sought by police. The victim, originally from Ceará, was taken to the Instituto Médico Legal in Juazeiro for a necropsy.

On 16 June in Marechal Rondon, a 68‑year‑old woman was hit by a Chevrolet Celta at the intersection of Avenida Irio Jacob Welp and Rua Porto Alegre. The impact caused a deep head laceration, severe bleeding, and a shoulder luxation. She was treated on site by the fire department and transferred in serious condition to a local emergency unit. Police recorded the incident and managed traffic flow.

Both incidents highlight ongoing road safety concerns in Brazil, with investigations ongoing into driver responsibility.
