Masaisai was conducting his ‘Pedals for Peace’ initiative, a journey from Goma, DRC, to Rabat, Morocco, intended to promote unity and peace across Africa.

According to reports, Masaisai had taken a taxi to reach a repair shop following a bicycle breakdown. The vehicle was struck by a truck, resulting in a fatal collision that claimed the lives of all occupants, including Masaisai.

The news has sparked widespread mourning and tributes across the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the international cycling community. In Kinshasa, cyclists organized a memorial ride at the Palais du Peuple, while in Goma, family and colleagues gathered to honor his legacy.
