Cyclist Public Servant Injured in Hit‑and‑Run on DF‑001, Brazil
André Ribeiro dos Reis, a 41‑year‑old public servant, was cycling on the DF‑001 road in Lago Sul, Distrito Federal, on the morning of 11 July 2026. While riding near the right‑hand lane with a rear‑mounted warning light, he was struck from behind by a vehicle that did not brake or honk. The impact broke the bike’s rear wheel, threw Ribeiro into the car’s hood, and caused injuries to his back, neck and ankle. The driver fled the scene without rendering assistance. Ribeiro was taken to a hospital for examinations and is now recovering at home, with doctors advising a two‑month break from physical activity. He filed a police report with the Federal District Civil Police, and investigators are working to identify the vehicle, which he recalls as white.
