Cyclist Ronan Augé suffers facial paralysis after crash

French cyclist Ronan Augé, a member of the Unibet Rose Rockets, has shared updates regarding his condition following a severe crash during the sixth stage of the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia. The accident occurred during a descent at approximately 70 km/h, resulting in Augé striking a lamp post.

Augé was placed in an induced coma following the incident. His medical diagnosis includes a fractured skull, broken femur, elbow, fingers, and ribs, as well as fractures to the C6 and C7 cervical vertebrae and a pneumothorax. He also reported that 50% of his face is paralyzed due to damage to the right facial nerve.

After spending two weeks in a hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Augé has been able to leave his hospital room in a wheelchair and is preparing to return to France. He expressed optimism about his recovery through rehabilitation, though he noted that reconstructive surgery may be necessary if facial mobility does not return.
