Cyclists complete 750 km journey for mental health awareness

Cyclists Angela Patricia Rios Cerqueira and Lene Albuquerque completed a 750-kilometer journey by bicycle from Caruaru, Pernambuco, to Mairi, Bahia. The expedition, which took eight days, was part of ‘Projeto Casulo’, an initiative linked to the ‘Setembro Amarelo’ (Yellow September) campaign focused on suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

Starting their daily rides around 5:00 AM, the duo covered distances of approximately 100 to 110 kilometers per day. Their route passed through several municipalities in the states of Pernambuco, Alagoas, and Bahia, including stops in Garanhuns, Ouro Branco, Paulo Afonso, and Capim Grosso.

The project was conceived by Cerqueira following a personal experience of loss. By retracing the route taken during a previous trip for a family funeral, she aimed to transform a memory of grief into an educational mission to promote the value of life and physical activity as a tool for mental well-being.
