Cyclists Eyskens and Evenepoel feature in Belgian sports news

Cyclist Jeroen Eyskens of the Cibel-Cebon team has secured a victory in Temse, Wijk Velle, marking the end of a two-year period of severe health complications. Following a successful period in late 2024, Eyskens suffered from Long COVID, which led to a series of life-threatening medical issues including pericarditis, a kidney infection, and sepsis.

Eyskens detailed his medical struggles, noting that an initial hospital stay in July 2025 was unsuccessful due to an incorrect antibiotic course. He required a second hospitalization in August to receive appropriate medication for his infections.

In separate cycling news, Fred Vandervennet, who discovered Remco Evenepoel as a young rider, commented on the diminished contact between them. Vandervennet noted that as Evenepoel moved to larger teams like Soudal Quick-Step and Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, the professional entourage and new training structures have naturally distanced the rider from his early supporters.
