Cypherpunk Technologies launches world's largest Zcash mining fleet

Cypherpunk Technologies has launched Cypherpunk Mining, establishing what it claims is the world’s largest Zcash mining fleet. The expansion was achieved through a $33.33 million equity-based transaction with Winklevoss Capital, involving the acquisition of 4,902 mining machines from Moria Mining, an affiliate of Winklevoss Treasury Investments.

The fleet is currently operational across three sites in the United States, generating approximately 4.2 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate. This output represents roughly 18% of the total Zcash network hashrate. To lead the new operation, the company appointed industry veteran Kevin Zhang as Head of Mining.

This strategic move shifts Cypherpunk’s involvement with Zcash from purely holding the asset to actively producing it. The company currently holds approximately 323,394 ZEC, representing about 1.9% of the circulating supply, and has set a long-term target of accumulating 5% of the total supply. The company intends to use the mining revenue to fund future growth, additional ZEC acquisitions, and further investments in privacy-preserving technologies.
