Archbishop Elpidophoros and President Christodoulides address Cypriot diaspora in New York
Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides headlined the annual honorary dinner of the Federation of Cypriot Organizations of America in Queens, New York. The event, which coincided with the Federation's 75th anniversary, focused on the Cyprus issue and the role of the diaspora.
Archbishop Elpidophoros called for effective action and prayer to ensure a just future for Cyprus, noting its significant historical and cultural importance. President Christodoulides, who was in New York for the UN General Assembly, emphasized the strength of the Cypriot-American community, describing the Federation as a vital voice for Cyprus in the United States.
Addressing the ongoing division of the island, Christodoulides stated that Cyprus has not compromised with the occupation 52 years after the Turkish invasion. He noted that the Turkish side had recently declined a meeting to discuss new proposals submitted to UN Secretary-General António Guterres. He urged the diaspora to continue advocating for the national cause while presenting Cyprus as a modern, Western-oriented nation.
