Cypriot judokas compete at Hungary Grand Slam

Cypriot judokas competed on the first day of the Hungary Grand Slam in Budapest. Petros Christodoulides, currently ranked 27th globally in the -66kg category, faced Chrystian Silva of Brazil in the first round and was defeated. Christodoulides has seen significant progress in 2026, following a silver medal at the Mediterranean Games and a bronze at the Commonwealth Games.

In the same weight class, Giorgos Balartzisvili was eliminated in the first round by Hungary's Bence Pongracz. In the women's -52kg category, Sofia Asvesta secured a victory against Bulgaria's Gabriela Dimitrova before losing to the Czech Republic's Tereza Bodnarova in the subsequent round.

The Cypriot presence continues through the weekend, with several athletes scheduled to compete, including Odysseas Georgakis, Giorgos Kroussaniotakis, Giannis Antoniou, and Zanet Michailidou.
