Cyprus announces new funding tools for agricultural sector

Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Christos Senekis has announced new financing opportunities aimed at supporting the primary sector and revitalizing rural communities. Speaking at an event in Mamonia, Senekis introduced a new Financial Tool designed to address liquidity issues faced by producers following the approval of their investment plans.

Under the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023–2027, farmers with approved investments can access liquidity through participating banking institutions under favorable terms. The Strategic Plan features total funding of €454 million, of which €373 million is provided by European contributions. These funds target agricultural competitiveness, the establishment of new farmers, and the transition to sustainable production models.

Additionally, the Minister highlighted the LEADER initiative, noting that approximately €2.8 million has been allocated to support local development, culture, and tradition through the Paphos Development Company Aphrodite Ltd. The government is also preparing for the post-2027 CAP period to ensure long-term resilience and opportunities for the next generation of producers.
