Cyprus approves education reform as Greece disputes textbook content

In Cyprus, the Council of Ministers has approved a proposal to modernize special education. Education Minister Athina Michaelidou described the move as an emblematic action aimed at replacing legislation that has been in place since 1999. The new framework seeks to adopt a more child-centered and individualized approach, promoting the integration of children with disabilities into general schools, improving early diagnosis, and enhancing continuous assessment processes.

In Greece, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou has called on North Macedonia to remove certain formulations from its second-grade primary school textbooks. Athens claims that the books contain revisionist or chauvinistic language regarding the Macedonian language and historical figures, such as Alexander the Great. The Greek government asserts that these depictions violate the Prespa Agreement and the Constitution of North Macedonia. The matter is currently being addressed by a joint committee that meets alternately in Athens and Skopje.
