Cyprus Council of Ministers approves new permit fee calculation process

The Cyprus Council of Ministers has approved a proposal from the Ministry of Interior to amend regulations governing the calculation of permit issuance fees. The move aims to modernize and simplify the existing system to create a more efficient framework for application processing.

Key changes introduced by the amendment include the abolition of the geographical division of Cyprus into three categories with different cost coefficients. The new methodology will simplify fee calculations based on the type of development. Additionally, the reform eliminates tiered charging based on building area and land division into plots, as well as extra charges for external works.

Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou stated that the objective is to reduce complexity, enhance transparency, and ensure uniformity in the application of regulations. The reform also clarifies the timing for fee payments and establishes specific provisions for the refund of amounts already paid. These measures are part of a broader reform to accelerate licensing processes and reduce delays for citizens, professionals, and the construction sector.
