Cyprus diaspora campaigns to keep Turkish occupation on UK MPs' agenda
The National Federation of Cypriots in the United Kingdom has launched its annual #HandsOffCyprus online campaign, marking the 52nd anniversary of the 1974 Turkish invasion. Thousands of electronic messages have been sent to more than half of British parliamentarians, aiming to keep the Cyprus issue high on the UK political agenda and to pressure the British government to push Turkey back to negotiations.
The federation’s president, Christos Karalis, said, “The British‑Cypriot community remains firmly focused on finding a solution to the Cyprus problem and on ending the illegal and ongoing Turkish occupation.” The campaign encourages members of the diaspora and supporters to submit their messages in under 30 seconds via the federation’s website.
