Cyprus educators face infrastructure and staffing challenges at school start

As the new school year begins in Cyprus, Myria Vasiliou, President of the Cyprus Teachers' Association (POED), stated that educators have worked to ensure a positive and creative start for students despite ongoing systemic challenges.

Vasiliou highlighted several persistent issues facing the education sector, including staffing shortages and inadequate school infrastructure. Specific concerns were raised regarding the installation and operation of air conditioning, the continued use of prefabricated classrooms, and a lack of administrative leadership in kindergartens, specifically in the roles of Assistant Directors and Directors. She emphasized that adequate staffing and proper facilities are essential for providing quality education and ensuring the smooth operation of school units.
