Cyprus emphasizes regional stability and Gaza aid efforts

Cyprus has reaffirmed its stance on regional stability and humanitarian efforts during the MED9 summit. The Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement marking three years since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks against Israel, condemning the terrorist acts and rejecting all forms of antisemitism. The Ministry expressed solidarity with the victims and called for the disarmament of Hamas and the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan under UNSCR 2803 to achieve a two-state solution.

President Nicos Christodoulides emphasized Cyprus's role as a reliable partner between Europe and the Middle East. He highlighted the Amalthea Sea Corridor, an EU-member-led maritime humanitarian route that has delivered over 37,000 tons of aid to the civilian population in Gaza. Additionally, the President noted Cyprus's involvement in evacuating thousands of citizens from 70 different countries during regional crises and mentioned the CYCLOPS center, established with the US in 2022, as part of its commitment to regional security.
