Cyprus expands Child Benefit scheme and income criteria

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has announced a significant reform to the Child Benefit scheme, aimed at increasing the benefit amount and expanding eligibility through broader income criteria. The reform is expected to benefit approximately 17,000 additional families and more than 23,000 children.

Under the new regulations, income thresholds for families with three and four dependent children will be set at €90,000 and €100,000, respectively, to include more middle-class households. For families with five or more dependent children, no income criteria will apply starting in 2025. The reform also seeks to address long-standing issues, such as the sudden cessation of support following minor increases in household income.

Additionally, the government is extending tuition subsidies for children up to 4 years and 4 months old, a move expected to assist approximately 2,000 families and 2,800 children.
