Cyprus focuses on energy security and strengthening US strategic ties
Political leaders in Cyprus are emphasizing the strategic importance of international partnerships regarding energy and security. Anita Demetriou, President of the Democratic Rally, has called on the government to move past indecision and commit to the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project. She noted that the project, which involves interest from Greece, France, and the United States, could end Cyprus’s energy isolation and enhance its geopolitical standing.
Separately, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis highlighted the deepening strategic relationship between Cyprus and the United States. Following a working lunch with a bipartisan delegation of U.S. Congressional staff, Letymbiotis noted that defense cooperation, investments, and economic ties are strengthening. He cited the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act and ITAR as potential drivers for further strategic depth in the bilateral relationship.
