Cyprus Football Association addresses refereeing and VAR issues

Harris Loizidis, President of the Cyprus Football Association (CFA), has called for fairer media coverage regarding football officiating. Speaking at a refereeing seminar organized in collaboration with the Cyprus Sports Journalists Association, Loizidis urged sports journalists to highlight unfair criticisms directed at referees.

Loizidis noted that while mistakes occur, recent accusations from certain teams have not impacted match results. He acknowledged existing weaknesses in the system, specifically identifying issues with Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology. To address these technical challenges, the CFA has begun incorporating foreign referees to support the VAR process.
