Cyprus Football Association celebrates 92nd anniversary
The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) is celebrating its 92nd anniversary. Founded on September 23, 1934, the organization was established by several founding clubs, including AEL, Anorthosis, APOEL, Aris Limassol, Enosis Neon Pesochori – AML Larnaca, Olympiakos Nicosia, Turkish Club of Nicosia (LTSK), and Trust.
The CFA's primary mission is to promote sportsmanship and develop football while protecting the sport from actions contrary to athletic ideals. The association serves as the sole representative of Cypriot football to public authorities, FIFA, and UEFA. The CFA joined FIFA in 1948 and became a member of UEFA in 1962.
Following the establishment of the independent Republic of Cyprus in 1960, the Cyprus national team was formed. The team played its first official match on November 13, 1960, resulting in a 1-1 draw against Israel during World Cup qualifiers.
