Cyprus: Four-year-old boy dies following meningitis diagnosis
A four-year-old boy, Mario, has died at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia after being declared brain dead following a meningitis diagnosis. His death has sparked significant public outcry and allegations of medical negligence.
The child's family has alleged delays in diagnosis and serious lapses in care at Limassol General Hospital. According to the mother's claims, the child exhibited a high fever starting July 8, but medical intervention was reportedly insufficient during the initial days. Protests were previously held at the Limassol hospital by demonstrators calling for accountability.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. In response to the tragedy, the Kourion Municipality cancelled a scheduled musical event in the Trachoni Municipal District as a mark of respect for the grieving family.
