Cyprus greenlights gas field development, first exports slated for 2028

Cyprus’s cabinet approved development plans for the offshore Kronos gas field in Block 6 and the Aphrodite field in Block 12 of its exclusive economic zone. The Eni‑TotalEnergies consortium will now move toward a final investment decision on Kronos, whose reserves are estimated at about 2.5 trillion cubic feet, while the Chevron‑BG‑NewMed consortium will decide on Aphrodite by 2027.

The first gas from Kronos is slated for export to Europe in 2028, routed through Egypt’s Zohr field to the Damietta LNG terminal for shipment. The government says the projects will boost Cyprus’s geostrategic position, create jobs, and support EU efforts to diversify energy supplies.
