Cyprus lawmakers establish pro-Israel parliamentary caucus
Six members of the Cypriot parliament from three different political parties have formed a local chapter of the Israel Allies Foundation (IAF). The group includes MPs from DISY, ELAM, and DIKO, with DIKO MP Chrysis Pantelides serving as the president of the new chapter.
The initiative aims to strengthen ties between Cyprus and Israel based on shared security interests and mutual values in the Eastern Mediterranean. Israel’s ambassador to Cyprus, Suli Davidovitz, attended the launch, noting that the move reflects growing diplomatic and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
In a related development, leadership from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to discuss the ‘3+1 Mechanism’—a partnership involving Cyprus, Greece, Israel, and the United States focused on energy, security, and infrastructure. While proponents view these alignments as essential for regional stability, opposition parties in Cyprus have raised concerns regarding the influence of foreign lobbying within the legislature.
