Cyprus leads EU in business social media use, ranks third in pension fund count

Eurostat data released on Friday shows that 79.9% of Cypriot enterprises with ten or more employees used social‑media platforms in 2025, the highest rate among EU member states. Malta recorded the top share at 88.2%, followed by Finland (87.6%) and Denmark (86.1%). The use of social media rises with firm size, reaching 60.6% among small firms, 76.2% among medium firms and 89.1% among large firms across the EU.

The Central Bank of Cyprus published its first pension‑fund statistical report for 2025, noting that the total number of pension funds in Cyprus fell to under 600, a drop of more than 30% over the previous five years. Despite the reduction, Cyprus remains third in the euro area by number of funds, after Ireland and Spain. The report highlights that 26% of fund assets are invested in bonds, 25% in equities, and cash holdings stand at 14%, double the euro‑area average. The bank warned that around 20% of defined‑benefit schemes remain underfunded and called for an independent supervisory framework.
