Cyprus Minister urges clubs to settle social insurance debts

Cyprus Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mosiouttas, has issued a final call for football clubs and other interested parties to join a social insurance debt settlement scheme. The program, which is currently active, allows debtors to settle overdue payments in up to 54 installments, provided they maintain their current obligations.

Debtors can opt for a shorter repayment period of 27 installments to receive a discount on the monthly 3% surcharge applied until 2027. Mosiouttas noted that football clubs specifically owe approximately €9.5 million to the Social Insurance Fund.

The current scheme is scheduled to remain in effect until mid-September, a deadline influenced by the summer holiday period. So far, between 1,500 and 1,600 applications have been submitted. The Minister emphasized that while the scheme was not designed exclusively for football clubs, they are encouraged to participate to resolve their outstanding debts.
