Cyprus opens Larnaca‑Dekeleia road after 26‑year delay

A new 3.3‑kilometre road linking Larnaca and Dekeleia was opened to traffic, ending a 26‑year wait for the project. The €14.8 million public works scheme includes four traffic lanes, a central median, modern sidewalks, bicycle paths, green spaces, bus stops and four level roundabouts, as well as 22 Pelican‑type pedestrian crossings for safety.

Construction began on 30 September 2022 and was originally slated for completion in March 2025, but the contract was extended and the main section was finished on 16 July 2026. Provincial Engineer Lazaros Lazaru of the Department of Public Works Larnaca said the remaining service roads will be built by the end of October, followed by landscaping. He described the road as a significant boost for local development, safety and tourism in the Larnaca region.
