Cyprus plans €10 million expansion of electric vehicle charging network
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works in Cyprus has announced a plan to install 94 new rapid charging points for electric vehicles between 2026 and 2028. The project, estimated to cost €10 million, aims to cover the island's road network by establishing 10 charging sites for light vehicles and three sites for heavy vehicles.
According to Minister of Transport Evanthia Cholaki, the rollout includes 76 rapid charging points for light vehicles with 150 kW capacity and 18 points for heavy vehicles, featuring power outputs of 200 kW and 350 kW. The expansion will target various regions, including Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, and Paralimni.
Currently, Cyprus has 384 publicly accessible charging points across 221 stations. The planned infrastructure for 2026 and 2027 has already been included in the budget of the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services.
