Cyprus Police Enforce €50 Fine for Missing Warning Triangle on Motorway

Cyprus police have issued a reminder that drivers must place a red reflective warning triangle when a vehicle is stopped on the safety lane of a motorway. The triangle must be positioned about 50 metres behind the vehicle on non‑urban roads (approximately six metres in built‑up areas). Failure to do so is an off‑the‑record violation punishable by a €50 fine.

The police also stress that a stopped vehicle must be moved to a safe lane as soon as possible, must not remain on the motorway for more than 24 hours, and must not obstruct traffic. If any part of the vehicle protrudes into the traffic lane, the authorities must be notified immediately.

These rules apply to breakdowns, emergencies or any other situation where a vehicle is immobilised on the motorway.
