Authorities investigate child neglect cases in Cyprus and Japan

Authorities in Cyprus and Japan are investigating separate incidents of child endangerment involving parents leaving children alone.

In Paphos, Cyprus, a single father was arrested after leaving his 11-year-old daughter alone in their home for approximately two days. The man reportedly traveled to Albania to attend a UEFA Conference League football match involving Paphos FC. Following reports from neighbors, police and social services intervened, and the child was placed under official care. The father faces charges of child abandonment and neglect.

In Japan, a 48-year-old father faced police reprimand after leaving his 7-year-old son alone at an altitude of over 2,000 meters on Mount Fuji. The child was discovered by mountain hut staff sitting on a bench in foggy and rainy conditions. The father had reportedly told the boy to ‘wait here’ before continuing the ascent with his older son. The boy had been alone for several hours before being found.
