Cyprus prepares report to regulate pet hotels

The Commissioner for Environment and Animal Welfare, Ilias Myrianthous, has announced that a report regarding pet hotels, primarily for dogs, is being prepared to facilitate better regulation of the industry. The report aims to provide a comprehensive overview by documenting the total number of pet hotels and distinguishing between licensed and unlicensed facilities.

The report is expected to be completed within the first ten days of September, once the assigned veterinary officer begins working full-time at the Commissioner’s Office. While no complaints of animal abuse in pet hotels have been received since Myrianthous took office, the Commissioner noted that animal shelters remain a significant concern. Discussions are ongoing with local authorities in Paphos to promote shelter operations, while Nicosia is noted to be in a better position regarding shelter management.
