Cyprus presents migration management model to US officials
A delegation of officials and advisors from the United States Congress and Senate visited the Cyprus Ministry of Migration and International Protection to discuss enhanced strategic cooperation regarding security, migration, and regional stability.
During the meeting, Cyprus presented its migration management model, which emphasizes strong border and Green Line protection, maritime patrols, accelerated asylum processing, effective returns, and the combatting of migrant smuggling networks. Officials highlighted Cyprus’s role as a frontline European Union member state in the Eastern Mediterranean and the challenges posed by regional instability.
The discussions also covered the implementation of the new EU Migration and Asylum Pact, reforms in legal migration, and digital transformation within ministry services. Additionally, Cyprus outlined its ongoing efforts to join the US Visa Waiver Program and the Schengen Area.
