Cyprus security concerns rise over port equipment failures

Political tensions have risen in Cyprus regarding national security and the functionality of critical infrastructure. Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has publicly denied the existence of security issues, claiming that X-ray devices at the Girne Tourism Port are operational. However, reports indicate that the X-ray equipment has been non-functional for seven months due to inadequate electrical infrastructure, potentially allowing uninspected trucks to enter the country.

Furthermore, the opposition party, CTP, submitted a motion to the Assembly to discuss security concerns following an increase in common crimes. The government members failed to meet the required quorum, preventing the Assembly from opening to debate the issue. Critics argue that the government is avoiding these discussions ahead of upcoming elections.
