Cyprus: Seven blind passengers stranded mid-road in Aradippou

The Pan-Cyprian Organization of the Blind has raised serious safety concerns following an incident in Aradippou where seven blind passengers, including individuals with deaf-blindness, were forced to disembark from a bus in the middle of a busy road.

The vehicle, a 20-seat minibus used to transport trainees from Larnaca and Famagusta to the School for the Blind in Nicosia, reportedly experienced severe vibrations and mechanical noises during a change in speed, creating a risk of overturning. The passengers had to contact relatives to collect them, as neither the transport company nor the school provided immediate assistance.

The Organization reports that complaints regarding the vehicle's suitability have persisted for over two years. Cited issues include frequent mechanical failures, malfunctioning doors, windows that open unexpectedly, worn-out seating, and poor cleanliness. Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding the driving standards and the excessive duration of the two-hour journey.
