Cyprus supermarket prices swing in July as 805 items rise and 908 fall
The Cyprus Consumers Association’s e‑kalathi price‑tracking platform recorded sharp movements in grocery prices during the second half of July 2026. Prices rose for 805 products, averaging a 10.6 % increase, while 908 products fell, averaging an 11.9 % decrease. The biggest category‑level hikes were seen in frozen pasta and pizzas (+7.6 %), fruit juices (+6.6 %) and chocolates and pasta (+6.3 %).
Price gaps between supermarkets remained pronounced. A survey of 177 common items across 12 supermarkets showed a 15.8 % difference in average total cost, whereas the five supermarkets with the widest assortments exhibited a narrower 7.6 % gap for 327 shared products. The association noted that such disparities suggest weak competition in the Cypriot grocery market. Eurostat estimated Cyprus’s annual harmonised inflation at 4 % in July, a slight dip from 4.1 % in June but still far above the 0.1 % recorded a year earlier. The association urged consumers to avoid products with price hikes as a way to curb inflationary pressure.
