Cyprus to invest €25.5 million in civil protection and fire prevention

Cyprus's Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, and Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Seneis, met to strengthen inter-ministerial cooperation regarding civil protection, the environment, security, and crisis management.

A key focus of the discussion was enhancing operational readiness to prevent and combat forest fires through the use of modern technology and equipment for early detection and better coordination. This initiative is part of Phase B of the Holistic Monitoring System, which involves approximately €25.5 million in investments over three years to upgrade operational capabilities with new equipment, technological tools, and additional personnel.

The ministers also discussed joint training programs for staff to improve emergency response, coastline monitoring for marine pollution management, and marine spatial planning.
