Cyprus to tender Paphos–Polis Chrysochous highway by 2027
Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis has announced plans to tender both phases of the Paphos–Polis Chrysochous highway within 2027. Speaking at the General Assembly of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Letympiotis addressed the long-delayed infrastructure project, which has been a demand in the Paphos region for decades.
The decision follows significant issues with a previous €73 million contract signed in 2021, which was scheduled for completion in November 2024. As of October 2024, project progress was reported at only 21.1%, while the contractor had requested an additional €36.2 million in compensation and a 59-month extension. Letympiotis emphasized that maintaining a problematic contract does not constitute progress and that the new design will feature a modern four-lane highway.
The project consists of two phases: the first from Agia Marinouda to Stroubi, where expropriations and environmental assessments are already complete, and the second extending from Stroubi to Polis Chrysochous.
