Cyprus Turkish Petrol Workers' Union holds warning strike

The Cyprus Turkish Petrol Workers' Union, affiliated with the Revolutionary Workers' Unions Federation (Dev-İş), is conducting a warning strike at the Kalecik Filling Facilities. The industrial action follows notices sent to nine employees regarding the cessation of their work, reportedly due to the suspension of operations at Ercan Airport.

Dev-İş President Semih Kolozali criticized the management, describing the termination notices as unlawful and an attempt at “worker massacre.” Kolozali noted that while the company may appear private, it is a state-owned entity due to government golden shares, yet the government claims no board decision was made regarding the layoffs. He highlighted administrative errors, such as issuing a termination notice to an employee scheduled to retire on November 3.

The union has warned that if no compromise is reached and negotiations do not begin, they will transition to an indefinite strike starting Monday. Additionally, the union cited a shortage of at least 12 staff members, leading to increased workloads and a lack of quality control and inspection teams.
