Cyprus Turkish public sector contract regulations move to General Assembly

A new regulation aimed at securing the employment status of approximately 400 contracted public sector employees has passed the committee stage in the Republic Assembly and has been referred to the General Assembly.

Metin Atan, President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Servants Union (KAMUSEN), stated that under the proposed changes, contracts would be signed every five years rather than annually. The system would be performance-based; employees with successful performance reviews would continue their roles, while those failing to meet standards could face termination.

The regulation also seeks to align leave entitlements with the Civil Servants Law. A proposal is being prepared to increase monthly leave to 3.5 days, addressing current limitations where annual leave is set at 15 days and other leave types remain insufficient compared to permanent public officials.
