Cyprus unions negotiate wage increases for hourly government staff
Trade unions in Cyprus have met with Finance Minister Makis Keravnos to discuss wage increases for hourly government personnel. While unions noted a shift in the government's stance—acknowledging the necessity of improving wages—they stated that the initial proposal presented by the Ministry is currently unsatisfactory.
Representatives from OEKDY SEK, PASYEK PEO, and DEE KDKOK DEOK indicated that the current offer falls significantly short of their demands, which include a general 8% increase over three years. Union leaders emphasized that the proposal does not even reach 50% of their minimum requirements.
Negotiations are ongoing, with further discussions scheduled with the President of the Republic on Monday. Unions have warned that if no significant progress is made during these upcoming meetings, they will announce measures of reaction to address the cost-of-living challenges faced by workers.
