Cyril Ramaphosa condemns violence against migrants in South Africa
President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned recent violence and exclusion directed at foreign nationals in South Africa. Speaking at a Southern African Development Community (SADC) public lecture in eThekwini, Ramaphosa expressed shame regarding incidents where migrants were allegedly forced to leave the country under threats of violence.
Ramaphosa emphasized that such actions contradict the principles of solidarity and regional integration promoted by SADC. He noted that while integration is discussed at international summits, it must also be practiced within local communities. He called for collaborative regional efforts to address the underlying conditions driving migration and to ensure the safety of people moving within the region according to established laws and protocols.
