Cyréna Samba-Mayela provisionally suspended over whereabouts failures

French hurdler Cyréna Samba-Mayela, the silver medalist in the 100m hurdles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). The suspension, which began on September 18, follows allegations of three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.

Under anti-doping regulations, athletes in target groups must provide a daily one-hour window between 5:00 and 23:00 during which they can be located for unannounced testing. Samba-Mayela faces a potential two-year ban if the allegations are upheld, a penalty that would disqualify her from competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Her management has clarified that the investigation pertains strictly to whereabouts reporting obligations and does not involve the use of prohibited substances. Samba-Mayela is currently training in Texas under coach Tonja Buford-Bailey.
